Help:Wiki

We want to deliver vast amounts of information over the Wiki. And again, the Wiki is not something that you just dump something on. It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes. And if you don't understand, those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and it's going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of wankery, enormous amounts of wankery.

Know where to find information, where to put information and how to talk about information.

Pages with information

The pages listed in the wiki sidebar are "root" pages that either have lots of information or link to other such pages.

Where to put information

These pages list articles that need improvement:

Category:MOAR Articles tagged with the {{MOAR}} template. They need MOAR stuff.
Category:CateMOAR Categories tagged with the {{CateMOAR}} template. They need MOAR articles.
Pages that need to be updated.
Special:Wantedpages Pages that are linked to but don't actually exist ("red links"). The "Needs More Existence" list at the bottom of the main page is a subset of this list. Make them exist or remove the link if it is unnecessary.
Special:Shortpages Pages ranked in order of length, shortest first. Look at the shortest pages and see what you can do to make them longer.
Special:Lonelypages Pages not linked to by any other pages. Make links pointing to these so people can find them.

If you're one of those crazy original people who wants to strike out on your own topic, do a search for your potential article name on the sidebar. If there are any possibly relevant articles, they'll show up, and if your article title doesn't already exist, there will be a red link near the top to start creating it.

Proper care and feeding of Talk: pages

Every article has an associated Talk: page (linked at the top of the page). They're good for commenting on the contents, formatting or existence of an article.

  • Always sign your posts with ~~~ (substitutes your name) or ~~~~ (substitutes your name and date).
  • If you're posting a new topic on a Talk: page that already has an extensive discussion, you might want to add a new section. The easiest way to do that is to click on the "+" tab at the top of the talk page.

Watchlist

Add a page to your watchlist by clicking "watch" at the top of the page. You can monitor watched pages for changes on Special:Watchlist (linked at the top right of your screen), and you can also set the wiki to e-mail you when a watched page is modified.
