Computers
Floorpi has several computers for hall use. no longer has any hall computers, following the death of simpi, and the likely demise of piwest in the Great East Campus Purge of 2012.
Network
TV lounge wireless signal is not great, and there is only one Ethernet drop. For your every need and desire:
Wired switch
We have a shiny gigabit switch. Do not unplug any of the network cables. Do not steal any cables. Do not unplug the power.
If you connect your computer to the switch, it should behave like any other MITnet network drop, except that you will get above-MITnet transfer rates to anything else connected to the switch.
Wireless router
We have a crappy wireless router. Again, do not unplug anything.
The network SSID is piwestpoint.
Because this is a router (not switch), any traffic going through the router is associated with the hall (not you). Don't pirate stuff through it.
Wireless is normally turned off; ask meeg to turn it on.
Web space
We have an Athena locker, thirdwest. Access is controlled by membership of the thirdwest-request list (above). Currently the locker contains two web sites and a Starcraft install.
Wiki
The thing you're reading.
- SSL access (with MIT certs; needed to edit): https://thirdwest.scripts.mit.edu:444/wiki
- Public access (there is no reason you should use this, but included for completeness): http://thirdwest.scripts.mit.edu/wiki
Web page
Our old static page. The wiki has replaced it, but the old stuff is still around (the index page redirects to the wiki): http://web.mit.edu/thirdwest/www
Starcraft
You need to be on the garmbrood list to use this. Ask mikemp or charlest.
Host registrations
Floorpi has several static IPs for hall use. If you need to know what they are, you probably know how to find them.
