Contact is a word game that guarantees that no conversation topics are at hand at game end, either because you exhausted them before commencing, or because you killed them by playing. As far as we know, Contact originated at MathCamp, and spread through the various nerd camps until it got to Floor π.

How To Play

Players consist of a Dealer, who has a concealed word, and The Rest. The Rest win if they successfully ascertain what The Dealer's word is. The Dealer wins if The Rest give up in the process. At the beginning of the game, the Dealer has a sequence of characters <math>a_1a_2a_3 \ldots a_n</math> in which each a_i is a lowercase letter and the a_i read as an English word. The Rest are then told what a_1 is, and the game begins. The game can be defined inductively, so we shall provide instructions for the case where The Rest are aware of the first k letters of The Dealer's word.

  1. A member of The Rest poses a question to The Dealer whose answer begins with the k letters provided.
