The Great Spam War of 2006 occurred during the spring semester after an email to all of the dormitory lists inquiring as to the location of an individual's sweater containing his very important fraternity pledge pin. Several thousand emails were sent to every dormitory list on campus, causing a major slowdown of MIT's email servers.
