On doing it right

  • If you see something that needs doing, do it. If you can't or don't know how to do it, leave a note on the associated talk page.
  • You are expected to know basic markup as explained below. Practice in the Sandbox if you need to.
  • Date your edits - the reader should be able to tell how many decades ago you wrote this

On doing it wrong

  • Articles are not fora. If you want to say something about an article, do it on the talk page. Sign your talk page edits but not your article edits.
  • Don't make unnecessary pages. If there's another article that covers the same topic, you're doing it wrong.
  • Article text should be capitalized and punctuated, with basic markup. If you have something useful to say, but don't want to make it look decent, throw it on the talk page so you (or someone else) can get back to it later. The importance of presentability grows with traffic - the main page and articles linked from it should always look clean.
  • If you are making a page that relies on specific layout facets like text wrapping in the correct manner, check to make sure everything looks OK at 1024 x 768 resolution if your screen is bigger than that. Resize the window containing your article preview before committing it.
  • Don't use words like "current" or "recent" because that won't be true for long. Put the actual date/month/semester/year or whatever.

Section headings

Headings organize your writing into sections. The Wiki software can automatically generate a table of contents from them.

Subsection

Using more equals signs creates a subsection.

A smaller subsection

Don't skip levels, like from two to four equals signs.

Start with 2 equals signs not 1 because 1 creates H1 tags which should be reserved for page title.
